Over the long weekend we went to California for the Glen Helen Motocross race. Bran loves motocross/supercross so he likes to go every year! Luke likes to see the dirtbikes and never has an issue entertaining himself by playing with his cars in the dirt. What’s more, we didn’t even bring anything for him to do during the 5-hour car ride to California! In today’s day and age that’s quite unheard of! Brandon and I were impressed that he can just chat with us or play I Spy the whole time without needing a technological distraction. He is such an easy-going boy!!
The weather on Saturday was abnormally chilly (last year it was like 100 degrees) and rainy, and I didn’t pack any warm clothes for myself. Oops! I had to wear Brandon’s long sleeve shirt the whole day because the sun didn’t come out from behind the clouds. After the races, we drove to our AirBnB in Long Beach for the rest of the weekend. Here’s an AirBnB link to get $40 off your next stay: www.airbnb.com/c/amyp6342! We LOVE using AirBnB! It was a long day but so fun to spend that unplugged one-on-one time as a family.
In Long Beach we spent the day at the beach playing in the sand and the water – the water was nice and warm! A lifeguard came up and told us there was a possibility there were stingrays in the water – so that killed my usual confident ocean-swimming self. Haha! So we mostly had fun playing soccer and building sandcastles that Luke destroyed. Our friends were there with us too and they kept building little sand castles for Luke – it was so cute!
Luke warmed up to the water after awhile and the teeny tiny waves made him so unbalanced he kept getting knocked over. He’d pop right up to his feet again and brace himself for the next wave! I love seeing him at the beach since it’s my favorite place to be. We ate amazing food along the main drag, played at the arcade, walked around to the shops, and ended Sunday night taking Luke on the ferris wheel. He kept calling it a “tire”! But he begged us to go on it so we went to the ATM and got some cash, and boarded the ferris wheel. Halfway through, Luke got scared and wanted down so we had to hold him close to our bodies and shield his eyes from seeing how high up we were. He never cried or anything and raved about how fun it was after we got off. Toddlers are funny!
How did you and your family celebrate the long Memorial Day weekend? A special thank you to the men and women of the armed forces – past and present – who sacrifice so much to keep us safe!
